I am a nearly nine year stroke survivor and suffered with PBA from the beginning. My sister-in-law told me of a trick she uses to avoid breaking down emotionally; that is switching your brain side. Emotions are triggered in the right side of your brain(the side affected by my stroke) and the left side in the analytical side. Once I feel an emotional upset starting, I switch my brain to the left side and the feeling go away. I use the thirteen times table. I've also tried trying to remember chemical compounds, driving directions, any thing that uses the other side. This works for me. Sometimes I just let my emotions go and feel OK about it too.
