What triggers pseudobulbar affect (PBA) episodes?

Pseudobulbar affect (PBA) may occur when disease or injury damages the area of the brain that controls normal expression of emotion. This damage can disrupt brain signaling, causing a “short circuit” and triggering episodes of involuntary crying or laughing.

By keeping track of their episodes in an episode diary, people with pseudobulbar affect (PBA) may be able to better understand what triggers their symptoms and employ appropriate coping techniques.
